Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop a Visual Art-based Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning media that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the visual literacy of students in the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program at Universitas Darul Ulum Islamic Centre Sudirman (UNDARIS). The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects included two expert validators, consisting of a material expert and a media expert, as well as 30 PGSD students as users of the learning media. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and pretest–posttest instruments to measure visual literacy skills. The data were analyzed descriptively using percentage analysis to determine the validity and practicality of the product, while its effectiveness was evaluated using the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) score. The results indicated that the developed learning media achieved a validity score of 92.00% from the material expert and 93.60% from the media expert, both categorized as very valid. Student responses reached an average score of 92.73%, indicating that the media was very practical. The effectiveness test demonstrated an improvement in students' visual literacy skills, as evidenced by an increase in the average pretest score from 68.40 to 86.70 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.58, categorized as moderate. These findings indicate that the Visual Art-based IPAS learning media is feasible and effective as an innovative instructional medium for improving students' visual literacy while supporting more active, creative, and student-centered learning in the PGSD study program. Keywords: learning media, Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), Visual Art, visual literacy, ADDIE, elementary school teacher education.
